Meet our 6th Grade Team

Our incredible 6th grade team — Cali Shepard, Derek Updike, Rich Lafave, and Ally Lafave — brings a combined 86 years of teaching experience to Arcadia! Together, they teach ELA, Math, Social Studies, and Science, guiding students as they move from building basic skills to developing deeper learning and understanding across all subjects.

This team focuses on moving students from basic skills to deeper learning by using hands-on, engaging lessons that connect academics to real-world applications. Their classrooms are filled with energy, creativity, and curiosity as they prepare students for the transition to middle school and beyond.

Recently, 6th graders have been busy with some exciting projects and activities! In ELA, students wrapped up their Hatchet Final Project by creating Survival Guides, showcasing their comprehension and creativity. Social Studies classes have been working on Physical Feature Flipbooks, while in Science, students have been learning about utilization models and the transfer of light and energy. The Math team has been focusing on foundational lessons to strengthen students’ problem-solving skills and confidence.

Looking ahead, students are excited for Ashley Manufacturing Day and Rivoli Movie field trips—opportunities that bring learning to life beyond the classroom walls!

A special shout-out goes to 6th grade Leaders of the Pack:
🐾 Jackson Maldonado-Ortiz
🐾 Nikki Hernandez Donjuan
🐾 Mateo Vargas Acosta
🐾 Kaylee Barrios Aguilar

These students have shown outstanding effort, leadership, and commitment to learning. Way to go, 6th graders — we’re proud of all your hard work and accomplishments!
